Find out how you can benefit from new lamps

The Queen's Head - Case Study

One of Bromsgrove’s most popular pubs has significantly reduced its carbon emissions employing a new innovative lighting system that is 90% more energy efficient than its previous system. The award winning Queens Head Inn based in Stoke Pound supported by the Carbon Trust has slashed its energy costs with new dimmable LED lamps throughout the building.

The work was carried out by Bromsgrove based retrofit lighting specialists Killawatt, providing new recyclable lamps with a life of 50,000 hours, which run at a low temperature while enhancing the lighting throughout the pub providing an inviting ambience for guests.

The pubs owner Gianni D’Aniello said “Following our successful waste recycling scheme launched last year, minimising the amount of rubbish sent to landfill, we were keen to tackle a more efficient option for our electricity. We are delighted to have installed a greener and more sustainable solution which has resulted in cheaper bills and an improved atmosphere. Killawatt have helped make our conversion to LED power a smooth process, with no impact on the day to day running of our business”.

Local pubs have been left vulnerable by the economic downturn, smoking ban, rising landfill tax and utility costs. The number of pubs in the UK has dropped by 2,377 in the past year, to a total of 53,466. Throughout this period the popularity of the canal side Queens Head has gone from strength to strength boasting a recent refurbishment of its accredited bar and restaurant, function room, outside gardening area and gardens. It also scooped the CAMRA Pub of the season award for 2009.
